TYPES OF APPOINTMENTS |
First Appointment (90 mins)
We typically meet to hear about strengths and struggles in your own words. If it is a young person it is important that they feel safe to come to therapy particularly if a parent or caregiver is making the initial contact. Parents/caregivers can then be invited to add historical context. This may or may not include the young person, if that is what they choose. Sometimes parents/caregivers wish for some things to remain private. If this is the case these matters can be discussed without the young person present or on the phone at another time. Subsequent Appointments (60 mins) The frequency and number of sessions are usually agreed upon at the beginning of therapy. With young people I like to keep parents/caregivers involved in the therapeutic process because they are part of the solution. All reasonable efforts are made to obtain the agreement of the young person to involve parents and/or guardians on an on-going basis. (see Confidentiality) Phone or Google Meet Phone or Google Meet sessions are an ideal way to talk when it is not possible to attend in person. This may be because you live remotely, or you just feel this may suit you better. Where do Appointments happen?
Sessions are in a private room with the aim of making you feel as welcome and as comfortable as possible. Should I seek help for my child?
Life can be very challenging and I like to think of getting help this way - we get help at school if we don't know something, we have coaches for sport too so why not get information and support when life gets confusing or overwhelming?
